I founded Sussex Stables in 2020 after watching a pre-built, kit-form field shelter being assembled in a neighboring field. Coming from a construction background—specifically in oak-framed buildings—I was immediately struck by how flimsy it seemed, especially given that it was intended to house large horses.
After researching similar products online, I quickly realized that I could design and build structures that were far stronger and better suited to the job, without a significant increase in cost. Determined to put this idea to the test, I spent the next couple of days constructing my first building—a 12′ x 12′ field shelter. Wanting professional input, I invited a friend who ran a livery yard to take a look and suggest any improvements. With a few adjustments, we developed a design we were both happy with, and it became clear that there was a real demand for well-built, durable equestrian structures.
Over the next year, I continued refining the designs, making small but crucial improvements until I was confident that our shelters were among the strongest on the market. As word spread, customers began requesting additional structures, and our range quickly expanded to include stables, barns, and other buildings.
Satisfied clients also started asking for help with fencing and groundwork, leading us to establish dedicated divisions for these services. Ben’s fencing expertise, combined with my construction background, meant we were well-placed to offer high-quality solutions that complemented our buildings perfectly.
At Sussex Stables, we take pride in offering strong, practical, and expertly crafted structures. Whether you’re looking for a new stable, secure fencing, or reliable groundworks, we’re always happy to offer advice or visit your site to discuss your needs.
